Overview: Jesus is who He is and does what He does, so submit to His authority Jesus brings his disciples away to ask them an important, personal question (13-15) Who do you say that Jesus is? (15-17) Jesus entrusts authority not to a pope, but to the Apostles together (18-19, c.f. 18:18, Eph. 2:20, John 20:23) Authority is not in Apostolic succession, but in Apostolic Scriptures (John 13:20, Gal. 1:1, Acts 1:21-22) We cannot pick and choose what to believe about what He does (21-23) Never forget that all authority comes from who Christ is and what He does
