Overview: Eternal life is a gift, so humble yourself like a child Jesus is teaching his disciples (= Apostles) how to use the keys. (28, c.f. Matt. 16:19, 18:18.) The kingdom belongs to the childlike (despite disciples expectations)! (13-15) The rich young ruler is unlike the Pharisees, but just like them. (16, 20, c.f. Mk. 10:17) How do you expose a Pharisee’s heart? (17-19, 21, 1 John 4:20) Can we do something to merit eternal life? The earthly rich walk away from heavenly riches (21-22, 29, 23:13, 1 Cor. 2:9)
